Einer Studie der Werbeagentur Young & Rubicam zufolge ist Ebay (das grösste Internetauktionshaus) bereits die populärste Marke in Deutschland, gefolgt von Schwergewichten wie Aldi, Ikea, Lidl und Fielmann (Finanznachrichten, 2004a). Damit sind vielen Menschen diese Begriffe heute bereits geläufig, unter denen man sich noch bis vor wenigen Jahren wenig bis gar nichts vorstellen konnte. Interessant ist die Frage, was zu diesem märchenhaften Erfolg der Internetauktionsportale beigetragen hat. Auktionen, welche ausschliesslich im Internet angeboten werden, haben immer noch viel gemein mit den traditionellen Versteigerungen, wo die physische Anwesenheit von Bietern und Auktionator gegeben ist. Gleichzeitig aber unterscheiden sie sich in mancherlei Hinsicht auch stark davon. Beide Formen haben ihre Stärken und Schwächen. Diese Arbeit versucht das aussergewöhnlich vielschichtige und einer stark dynamischen Entwicklung unterliegende Phänomen der Internetauktionen, deren Beliebtheit sich in nur wenigen Jahren stark vergrössert hat, aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln zu erschliessen. 1.1 Aufbau und Disposition dieser Arbeit Diese Arbeit gliedert sich im wesentlichen in sechs Teile. Am Beginn (Kapitel 2) stehen die Definitionen der zentralen, wiederkehrenden Begriffe sowie die Erörterung verschiedener grundlegender Konzepte aus dem Bereich des e-commerce und speziell den Internetauktionen, welche im Rahmen der gesamten Arbeit von grosser Relevanz sind (wie u.a.
